The Need:

Our client is current looking for an Application Support Specialist/Deployer candidate to support ongoing operations as well as new deployments or upgrades to existing applications that run the Level 2 Manufacturing Execution Systems (or MES) in a large industrial setting. The team is attached to the company's Central Engineering Team and assists with the systems responsible for communicating with the automation (PLCs) at manufacturing facilities in the Americas. 

Day-to-day job responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of skills to allow for the configuration and deployment of Level 2 systems. These level 2 systems are either to support new machines or upgrade legacy systems. 

This individual will be responsible for testing the system and going to code when necessary to identify issues. 

The individuals should have the skills necessary to troubleshoot and repair scripts that run for installation and data conversion.  

This individual should also be able to:

  • interact with the local plant teams to gather the information and the requirements to configure test and deploy level 2 systems. 
  • make minor changes to the application code of these systems and point out decencies in the existing code sets ensuring code quality.
  • handle the necessary modifications to correct SQL data conversion scripts.
  • to train and communicate with the application responsible how the application works.  
  • support and find issues after the application has been running in production.

Technical Environment:

  • Currently these systems are predominantly Windows Servers running .NET Framework applications in C# application on with UI (user interfaces)  in either legacy ASP.Net or WPF with back end Oracle Database.  These systems are deployed on VMware ESXi clusters on premise in datacenters at our facilities.  This model is moving towards a micro service architecture using containers on Kubernetes (K8) using .NET Core with UI in Blazer and database in PostgreSQL on VMware Tanzu.  

3 Must haves for the position:

  1. Computer science background (Computer Science degree or equivalent experience required) with 5 to 7 years of production application support experience in an industrial manufacturing setting preferred. 
  2. Knowledge of the windows operating system (Windows Server 2008-2019 preferred) installation and configuration or at least basic system administration functions with experience using at least one object-oriented programing language (C# preferred) interfacing to a relational database (Postgres or Oracle preferred).
  3. Must have English as a first language or must have a fluency level of B2 or greater speaking English, i.e. The speaker can understand and express the main ideas of complex subjects and can have daily conversations on a wide variety of topics.

Location: Greenville, SC

Work Schedule: This position is generally expected to be a full-time onsite role. Some remote work may be possible after successful onboarding and with the agreement of the manager.

Travel Requirements
The travel requirement is estimated to be up to 30% over a 12-month period, with a maximum of 5-6 trips per year. A three-to-eight-month notification is given for most of the travel required. A passport is required for international travel. This candidate must have a current passport or be willing to apply for one on day one.
- The majority of the travel required is domestic.
- Some are day trips (to Columbia for example). You can stay or commute.
- 60% are 1-week trips
- 20% to 30% are 2-week trips
- 10% are 3-week trips (try not to do many trips this long)
- There could be up to 2 international trips. (France, Brazil, Canada, Mexico).
- There could be occasional emergency travel (corporate jet), once per year, if at all.
