Electrical / Automation Engineer

Employment Type: Long Term Contract / Contract-to-hire 
Compensation: $52/HR - $62/HR 
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Work Schedule: M-F, Full-Time Onsite 
Work Authorization: US Citizen or current Green Card Holder (no sponsorship)

The Need:

The person in this role will be responsible for providing Electrical/Automation Engineering support to the Mixing maintenance team of a large manufacturing company. The ideal candidate will have a bachelors degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronics Engineering with 4 or more years of experience in the installation, troubeshooting, or support of industrial manufacturing equipment, like PLCs, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and/or other devices as decribed below. 

The intended purpose of this role is to:

  1. Provide training to the maintenance wage Electricians
  2. Provide troubleshooting support to the maintenance team
  3. Identify opportunities for improvement in machine reliability
  4. Aid the shop in development of the maintenance systems/practices

This person must be a TEAM Player! Experience in Project Team Leadership or Project Management is preferred but not required.

This support is needed starting immediately and currently does not have a defined end date. The position will be reassessed on a regular basis based on the investment plan and loading on the curing engineering team.

Work Schedule:

  • Normal work hours 40 hrs/ week Monday – Friday, however occasional shifts in schedules can be made to provide coverage for project installations and start-ups requiring weekend or holiday coverage.
  • Overtime work may be approved as needed but will not be typical.
  • Work Plant Shutdowns as needed.  This work almost always falls on weekends & Holidays.
  • Work schedules will vary based on project needs and assignments.  
  • Call-in support may be needed in response to major breakdowns.

Day-to-day job responsibilities:

  • Provide detailed electrical design and automation programming for assigned projects.
  • Provide estimates and technical schedules for all phases of process equipment addition, replacement, or upgrade.
  • Provide backup support and training to plant maintenance teams on new automation systems that they implement.
  • Participate in assigned major capital projects and/or modifications from start to finish, including equipment reception, commissioning, and acceptance.

Requirements:

  • Candiate must be a US Citizen or possess a permanent resident green card! 
  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Electromechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics engineering, with 4+ years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment or equivalent technical experience.
    • Preferred 10+ years of Engineering Experience, enough to work on their own and not have to be micromanaged.
  • Experience with electrical design standards and able to complete controls systems designs using standard CAD design tools.
    • Autocad Electric is a plus, SEE electric experience is preferred. 
  • Experience with controls systems network interfaces and various protocols for communications between devices including computer system databases.  
    • Our systems are primarily Ethernet based. There are some Data-Highway + and ControlNet protocols but this role is not intended to work in those areas.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell, including VFD’s (or Variable Frequency Drives) and Motion Control technologies equipment, with working knowledge of PanelView and PLC programming standards & programming software, including GRAFCET, Ladder Logic, and Structured Text.  
    • Specific experience with Control Techniques, SEW MOVIMOT, and Rockwell, is a plus.

Pluses for this role:

  • Robotic experience, configuration or knowledge is preferred, but not required.  Specific experience with Fanuc, ABB is a plus.
  • Specific experience with Cognex, Keyence, Adept, Bytewise preferred. Gocator is a plus.
